I
have just found you on twitter & it's like a breath of fresh air.
My son was diagnosed at the age of 7 with dyslexia by our local dyslexia action group.
The small village primary he attended thought the problems he had were down to laziness & to add insult to injury also because my husband had died & I was a single parent with two small boys.
My son is not statemented as hus reading & spelling levels are 2+ years ahead of his age.
After I took in the diagnosis the school did alter, but after a real struggle.
Now he attends the local academy where again he has been placed into \'foundation\' sets for all of his gcse subjects although he has been attaining B\'s & C\'s in his mocks!
We have a meeting on Monday with the head Senco & the Parent Partnership & we are hoping that they will move him from the BTEC business group that he\'s been placed in back to the gcse option he was supposed to be in & that they will start to recognise that although he\'s dyslexic he\'s a really intelligent boy, who bottom line, wants to do well & just needs some support at school because at the moment he gets absolutely nothing.
It\'s an archaic system, quite disgraceful.
I am so pleased somebody is fighting these kids & adults corner.
I feel like I am constantly fighting with the school just for them to recognise my son\'s needs, it drives me to tears that the system is so unjust.
